About Ted

Ted McAllister Bio

*Favorite Artists: Beatles, Elvis, Neil Sedaka, Dave Clark Five

*Favorite TV Show: CSI (all of them!), Law and Order

*Favorite Color: Dark Blue

*Favorite Food: Italian

*Favorite Junk Food: Pizza

*Birthday: December 11

*Favorite Oldie: Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

*Favorite Rap Artist: Oxymoron. (I think Oxymoron had several hits in the early 90s)

*Favorite Conversation: Huey Lewis once banned me for life from Candlestick Park after I told him that I had seen 6 San Francisco 49ers home games between 1985 and 1995 - and they lost every one of them. What were the odds?

*Ted was on WSAI when Jim Scott, Roy Cooper and Larry Clark graced the airwaves. And he was there when the station changed format to country in August of 1978. In fact, he was the last voice you heard on WSAI that fateful day. But, his connection to WSAI actually goes back to the early days of Beatlemania. Ted's first job in radio was in high school, answering phones and filing records for former WSAI Good Guy Ron Britain in 1964 when Ron became the evening disc jockey at WHK in Ted's hometown of Cleveland. Hey, $1.40 an hour was big money in 1964. Well, $1.40 and all the records you could carry home.

*Ted's record collection quickly grew from several dozen to several thousand. Today, that collection includes over 6,000 45 RPM singles, 2,000 albums and 3,000 CDs. There is hardly an Oldie you can name that isn't in Ted's collection in some form.

*In 1979, Ted debuted his Music Magazine show on 55 KRC. The show was later hosted by Dan Allen and Jack Stahl when Ted moved up the corporate ladder and became a radio programming consultant in the 80s, eventually programming 121 Oldies stations worldwide since 1988. He is internationally recognized as one of the best Oldies programmers in the world.

*In 1989, he was the driving force behind the creation and programming of Cincinnati's first full-time FM Oldies station, WGRR, and was the programming consultant for the station for 12 and a half years. Music Magazine was resurrected there in 1991. Now Ted is back on the radio at WDJO with two other original WSAI Good Guys - Dusty Rhodes and Jack Stahl - every weekday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Funny how things come full circle.

*Ted's favorite pastimes are baseball, travel, dancing, redheads, and, of course, Oldies. If you want to know anything about 50s and 60s Oldies, where the artists are today, what they're doing, ask Ted. Ted's knowledge of the music and the artists is a big part of what makes WDJO so popular.

*When did you decide to become a DJ: At the age of 12 I realized that radio might be better than working for a living.

*Proudest Achievement: Programming Consultant of WGRR, WGLD, KOMA, KODJ, WHTT, WMGG, Vinyl 107, and 211 other wonderful radio stations over the past 25 years

*Radio Idols: Bill Drake, Gordon MacLendon, Ron Britain, The Real Don Steele, Robert W. Morgan, and Jim Runyon, who coined the phrase "I'll teach you songs you've never sung and we will stay forever young."

*If you could have any car, classic or new, what would it be: '64 Mustang convertible, preferably red -- maybe I can get Dangerous Dan to repo Rodger Kay's Mustang and grant me the title and registration.  (Rodger, thanks for loaning me the Mustang in September - a dream come true to drive my dream car.)
